WELCOME TO THE BILINGUAL SECTION!

On Tuesday 21st February, the students from the 6th grade of CEIP Virgen de la Quinta Angustia, CRA La Abadía, and CRA Quilós paid a visit to our school. The students got the chance to tour the school with different teachers who showed them the classrooms and introduced them to the campus. Then they added their handprints to the tree painted on an outside wall in the schoolyard. Their handprints signify leaves that make the tree grow bigger. After that, the students learned about the importance of why they should join the bilingual programme. Our English Language and Cultural Assistant, Elizabeth, gave a presentation explaining the relevance of being able to communicate in English worldwide.
She highlighted the fact that not only is English the third most spoken language by native speakers but also it is the most commonly spoken second language in the world. It is the official language of the European Union, which makes it even more desirable to learn. By knowing English, it allows the students to broaden their horizons in the sense that they can read a larger variety of books, websites, magazines and other tools that can enhance their knowledge. Later in life, it gives them more freedom to travel, study or work in other countries, and communicate with a vast amount of people all over the world. For those that live in Spain they can have the opportunity to use their bilingual skills to establish foreign affairs and have a greater chance to succeed in life.
At the end, Elizabeth encouraged the students to join the bilingual section which gives them the possibility to learn physical education and geology/biology in English in the first grade of the secondary school.
